Mechanical tube cleaning of drinking water pipelines
It is a well known and much mentioned fact that Hungary possesses a significant amount of freshwater stock of excellent quality, which is unique in world comparison. In order to preserve the quality of freshwater stock, several programs have been launched years ago, that focused on the assessment of water bases and their close environments and the regulation of the activities permitted to be performed in these environments.
The quality of water supplied to the consumers taken at water bases is different than water quality taken at consumption sites. As shipment distance increases, the possibility of quality deterioration also increases, because the pipeline system itself can be pollutant in case of improper maintenance.
The cleaning and disinfection methods used in general require relatively long time, which leads to pauses in water supply. The cleaning and disinfection method applied by DIRECT – LINE Ltd. at contaminated water pipes, cleaning equipments and water tanks significantly shortens the starting period of disinfectation.
The pipe cleaning elements and fittings developed by DIRECT – LINE Ltd. make the mechanical pipe cleaning method without exploration more efficient and economic. These cleaning elements shorten the period of cleaning and require less water to move the cleaning elements, as compared to other water pipe cleaning methods.
In order to remove very hard deposits, our company has developed cleaning structure of VT type that can be moved with different types of winches (manual, mechanical, chain and crab), as well as other means, according to local conditions. Both the dimensions and the features of the cleaning structure adapt to the dimensions of the pipe to be cleaned and the features of the deposit.
Depending on the features of deposits formed on cast iron pipes, various scratching elements performing cleaning and breaking the integrity of deposit layers are mounted onto the pipes. These elements are fixed onto arms that are capable for elastic deflection in axial direction, in order to reduce dynamic effects and to avoid any possible obstructions of water flow due to bottlenecks.
The conduction of the cleaning element through the pipeline must be preceded by pulling the wire along the pipe which will draw the fitting composed of one or more cleaning elements along the entire section to be cleaned. After pulling the wire and the cleaning elements through the section to be cleaned, the soft sponge method should be used to remove deposits.
Depending on the feature of the pipe and the deposit in the pipe, another method developed by DIRECT – LINE Ltd. can be selected to clean water pipes, the hard sponge technology, which is unrivalled in Hungary.
These methods can be applied to clean water pipes, oil pipes and pipes shipping different materials (powder, slop, sewage water sludge, carbon powder, etc.). DIRECT-LINE Ltd. has developed different types of cleaning elements, depending on the feature, hardness and the material of the pipe to be cleaned.
The pipe cleaning elements with inset are composed of flexible anti-wear insets of vulcolan base material cast into the body of the cleaning element. These vulcolan insets change their dimensions according to the extent of the deposit within the contaminated pipe. The efficiency of the cleaning can be increased by fittings embedded in the hard sponges, which are designed by our engineers.
